Bronze glazed ceramic geometric candle holder designed and made in the atelier of Jan van der Vaart, Holland 1978. This vase has a very nice bronze color glaze and nice geometric shape. This vase is made for tea lights.

The vase is signed at the bottom; VDVaart Makkum 78 and the wheel mark that was used for vases that were made in his own atelier. Van der Vaart was probably one of the most progressive and important ceramists from his era, in Holland for sure.

Jan van der Vaart (1931 – 2000) was a progressive and trendsetting ceramist from the 20th century. As teacher at the Rietveld Academie he taught many Dutch ceramists the ceramic business in Amsterdam (1968-1990). Because of his important works his ceramics can be found in many Dutch museums but also at the MoMA and V&A. Van der Vaart is most known for his constructive geometric style and a perfect unity of material, shapes and glazes.
