Italian Renaissance Oak Chest of Drawers, 17th Century

Price: Price on request

A distinguished 17th-century Italian Renaissance chest of drawers, crafted in richly patinated oak and adorned with finely detailed bronze hardware. This piece embodies the sculptural elegance and architectural balance characteristic of northern Italian craftsmanship of the period.

The three full-width drawers feature deeply carved geometric and foliate motifs, creating a rhythmic surface that catches the light and highlights the warmth of the aged oak. The proportions are graceful yet substantial, with chamfered edges, paneled sides, and tapered legs that provide a refined sense of lift.

The bronze drawer pulls and escutcheons add a compelling contrast to the darkened timber, emphasizing the chest’s Renaissance aesthetic. One handle on the lower right drawer was replaced at a later date, and the piece shows traces of old restorations, expected and appropriate for a functional object of this age. These elements contribute to the authentic historical character of the chest without detracting from its visual harmony or structural integrity.

A beautifully aged and architecturally carved example of 17th-century Italian furniture, suitable as a statement storage piece in both traditional and eclectic interiors.
