Set of 4 DS3 Dining Chairs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Atelier international, Italy 1970s
Price on request
Elegant set of four dinner chairs in ebonized ash wood with inlays of pearl and red vinyl upholstery. The DS3 chairs were designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Atelier International. The chair was reissued by the Italian company Cassina starting in the 1980s. These chairs were made before 1980 for Atelier International.
The Charles Rennie Mackintosh DS3 Dining Chair is not just a typical dining chair. Its slightly inclined backrest, high-quality materials, and mother-of-pearl finishes give it an elegant and modern style. The backrest with its symmetrical square perforations that penetrates the entire chair and reaches almost to the floor is just one striking detail. The DS3 dining chair is designed to be comfortable, and its square shape provides maximum solidity, supported by the wooden structure. The stylish design is enhanced by the mother-of-pearl inlays at the top of the backrest, creating a unique contrast with the straw seat as per the original design. The high level of workmanship and materiality can be seen in the variety of complex wood connections.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish architect watercolorist, and designer, who played an important role in the turn-of-the-century Post-Impressionist, Arts & Crafts, and Art Nouveau movements.
